In my sermon this past Sunday I spoke about God as our Refuge - a place where we can find safety, healing and rest, a place where we find the strength to carry on with life's journey and challenges.  Here is a list of places that might help you "build that platform" onto which God will shelter you with refuge.

If you happen to have suggestions to add to this list, please share with me and I am happy to post updates from time to time.

May you indeed find the refuge you need in the loving arms and heart of God.

Scripture Passages

Psalm 31:1-5 (NRSV)

In you, O Lord, I seek refuge;
    do not let me ever be put to shame;
    in your righteousness deliver me.
 Incline your ear to me;
    rescue me speedily.
Be a rock of refuge for me,
    a strong fortress to save me.

You are indeed my rock and my fortress;
    for your name’s sake lead me and guide me,
take me out of the net that is hidden for me,
    for you are my refuge.

 Into your hand I commit my spirit;
    you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)

 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Romans 8:35-39 (MEV)

 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
    we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities nor powers, neither things present nor things to come,  neither height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In God Alone - Taize  (In God alone my soul can find rest and peace, in God my peace and joy.  Only in God my soul can find its rest, find its rest and peace.)
