Dear People of Ascension,

When Thanksgiving arrives so does a request for a special offering.  It's difficult to ask for money, especially in an economy where many things are uncertain.  And we sincerely appreciate the generosity of our parish throughout the years.  We know that you give, you give generously and you give often!  Thank you!!

If you are considering giving a bit more at this special time, let us share with you a little bit of what your money goes towards.  Yes, our offerings help pay the usual, not so exciting, bills that are required to keep the place running - insurance, heat and AC, gas etc. Our offerings also help to pay our employees - our priest, our music director and for cleaning and upkeep.

But your generous donations also help us offer various opportunities for God's Spirit to connect with our community.  Sometimes we see this, like at our monthly Thyme meetings or when Dinner Church gathers.  Many times we don't see it.  For example, our priest is called to the local Hospice to offer prayers for families and from many different traditons.  Just last week, Ruthanne offered prayers with a Hindu family whose grandmother had just died.  And this week Ruthanne met with a parishioner who is thinking about starting a support group through the church.

Together we are building and facilitating community here in Port Perry and through that, touching people's lives with the gift of God's love, grace and peace.  In a troubled world, let us never underestimate how our small church connections can make a meaningful impact in people's lives.

For the many ways you give, thank you! If you'd like to make an extra contribution this Sunday, Thanksgiving envelopes are available in the Narthex.

With Gratitude for you and all we do together,

The Rev. Canon Ruthanne Ward & The Wardens
