Order of Service - Trinity Sunday

Prelude

Welcome

Opening Hymn:  Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty CP #1

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.

Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!

God in three persons, blessed trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,

casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,

which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty!

All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth, and sky, and sea.

Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!

God in three persons, blessed trinity!

The Greeting

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

And also with you.

The Collect Prayer

Enfolding God, Trinity of love, you are our source, our goal, our life:  may we be born again in you no more to live alone and unconnected, but sharing in the Spirit’s breath and carried to your heart; through Jesus Christ, who lifts us up.  Amen.

The Readings

Isaiah 6:1-8; Romans 8:12-17; John 3:1-17

The Homily

Hymn after the Homily:  Yours the Hand That Made Creation #256  all 3 verses

Yours the hand that made creation, womb of every constellation, every specicies, every nation:

glory to the Three-in-One.

Jesus, from the first descending, by your birth the broken mending, Word of God the never ending:

glory to the Three-in-One.

Holy Wisdom, ever near us, tongue of fire to teach all hearers, sanctify and guard and cheer us:

glory to the Three-in-One.

Hear, O Israel

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first and the great commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.

The Prayers of the People

Confession and Absolution

Dear friends in Christ, let us bring before God the truth of our ways by making our

confession to the One who forgives us.

Silence is kept.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

The Doxology

Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.  Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ

Jesus, forever and ever.  Amen

The Blessing

Closing Hymn:  Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones. CP #320

Ye watchers and ye holy ones,

bright seraphs, cherubim, and thrones,

raise the glad strain, Alleluia!

Cry out, dominions, princedoms, powers,

virtues, archangels, angels' choirs:

Refrain:

Alleluia! Alleluia!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

O friends, in gladness let us sing,

supernal anthems echoing,

Alleluia! Alleluia!

To God the Father, God the Son,

and God the Spirit, Three in One: [Refrain]
