Worship Service for September 6th 2020

Welcome to this Sunday's service!  We are glad you are here. We learned recently that many hymns are copyrighted and cannot be placed as a link in our services.  This week we have listed the hymn number as found in Common Praise as many of you have a home copy of the hymnal. We have also provided an attachment with the words to each hymn.  You are certainly welcome to go to YouTube yourself and search for the hymns so you can have some music to accompany you.

As you enjoy this service you will notice there are several attachments. For ease of use they are in order of appearance. We invite you to worship whenever you have time this week to do so in a peaceful and unhurried way.

Gathering of the Community

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of us, now and evermore. Amen

Glory to God

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly king, almighty God and Father,

we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God,

you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father:  receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,

in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Collect Let us pray. Lord of the church, you call a broken people into community: in times of disagreement teach us to listen loose us from prejudice and bind us to your way of forgiving grace; through Jesus Christ who stands at the heart of our gathering. Amen.

An Affirmation of Faith

Our Lord Jesus Christ said: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord, and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself.

The Offertory Prayer

Great and holy God, accept our offering of labour and love. May we bring you true and spiritual worship; together in community and one with you. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Doxology

Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we could ask or imagine. Glory to God, from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen

Blessing

Go out into the world in peace,

Be of good courage,

Give to no one evil for evil,

Support the weak,

Help the afflicted,

Honour all people,

Love and serve the Lord,

Rejoice in the power of the Holy Spirit,

And by what you are the church in the world.

And may the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit Be amongst us and remain with us always. Amen.

Announcements

Our gospel today teaches that as any one member of the community suffers so all members suffer. Please join us in praying for the Traynor family of Oshawa on whom such terrible violence fell this week. May God comfort those who mourn, heal the injured and receive into his kingdom all who have died. Amen.

Priest on the Lawn will be Tuesday September 8th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am (weather permitting). Drop by for a visit, to say hello and enjoy some time in community.
