Order of Service - Sunday August 15th, 2021

Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost

Opening Hymn - O Worship the King- CP #380. (4 vs.)

1 O worship the King all-glorious above,
O gratefully sing his power and his love:
our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days,
pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise.

3 Your bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

4 Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
in you do we trust, nor find you to fail.
Your mercies, how tender, how firm to the end,
our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!

5 O measureless Might, unchangeable Love,
whom angels delight to worship above!
Your ransomed creation, with glory ablaze,
in true adoration shall sing to your praise!

The Grace

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.  And also with you.

Collect for Purity

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden.  Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord.  Amen

Collect Prayer

Eternal God, source of all wisdom and understanding, your ways lead the upright of heart.  Give us wise and discerning minds, that we may seek your wisdom above all earthly riches.  We pray in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Proverbs 9:1-6; Psalm 34:9-14; Ephesians 5:15-20; John 6:51-58

Hymn After the Homily - Spirit of the Living God CP #647 (2 vs.)

Spirit of the living God, move among us all;

make us one in heart and mind, make us one in love:

humble, caring, selfless, sharing

Spirit of the living God, fill our lives with love!

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me;

break me, melt me, mould me, fill me

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me!

Prayers of the People

Confession & Absolution

Dear friends in Christ, let us bring before God the truth of our ways by making our confession to the One who forgives us.

Silence is kept.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be your name,

Your kingdom come,

Your will be done,

On earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

As we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial,

And deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

And the glory are yours,

Now and forever.  Amen.

Benediction & Blessing

Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever.  Amen.

Closing Hymn - My Soul Proclaims Your Glory, Lord CP #363 (3vs.)

1.  My soul proclaims your glory, Lord,
my spirit sings with thankful voice,
for you my lowly prayer have heard:
in you, my Saviour, I rejoice.

2.  Nations unborn will bless your name,
giver of boundless grace to me,
in every age you are the same:
you make the humble whole and free.

5.  Glory to God, all being’s Spring,
to God the Word, salvation’s voice,
to God the Spirit, praise we sing:
with all the ages we rejoice.
