Throughout the past year, many church leaders have been watching trends within the church and engaging in conversations about what they are seeing.  I have been privileged to be a part of some of those conversations.  Again and again I am hearing from people that the church is going to be much more focused on "connecting" when we come out of this pandemic.  Perhaps that goes without saying - we miss seeing each other!

But these folks are speaking to a larger shift.  Churches that will thrive and survive in the years to come will be places that are supported and shared by the whole community.  For some that will mean providing meals for families falling through the cracks, for others that will mean hosting community events, like vaccination clinics, and for others it will mean partnering with local arts groups, much like Ascension has already done for years.

In light of these movements in the church, the idea of replacing our pews with chairs that can be stacked, moved and are more comfortable to sit in becomes all the more important.

We, the corporation, are inviting you, the people of Ascension, to join with us in prayerfully discerning whether or not this is a direction that the Spirit of God is calling us at this time.  We started the conversation early on last year, but had to delay making decision because of the pandemic.

Please take some time to review the material that is attached below.  The wardens will begin a phone campaign this week, so you will have an opportunity to share your thoughts, ask questions and be engaged in the process.
