This past Sunday I shared with the congregation my own paraphrase of Psalm 23 and offer it here for you again.  I would suggest that it is an interesting practice to read the psalms and then rewrite the psalm in your own words.  In this way, you may discover the hidden meaning and encouragement of God's word to you.

Psalm 23 - Paraphrase by Ruthanne Ward

The Lord is the one who guides me, shows me the way.

He takes me to restful places and shows me how to stop.

He leads me along pathways of peace, he brings a sense of wholeness to my soul.

Even though I walk through some painfully dark and oppressive places, I am never afraid, for God is with me; God’s strength and power are made known to me and this brings deep comfort.

Even in the face of those who mock me, shame me, oppress me, God sets a table full of good food, presents me as beloved and I know that I am richly blessed.

It is true - goodness and mercy and grace are all around me, for all the days I am alive, and I dwell in the mystery of the good and loving God who created everything.
