A note about the service:. We apologize in advance for the momentary disruption in our service today.  Our priest, Ruthanne, has her cell phone with her in the church in case our tech person needs to communicate during the recording of the service.  Though the sound is off, for some strange reason the alarm went off this week - right in the middle of the prayers.  We apologize for this disruption and will endeavour to make sure it doesn't happen again!

Please see at the bottom of this service a couple of announcements.

Order of Service - Easter 3

Prelude

Welcome

Opening Hymn - Morning Has Broken CP  #3

1 Morning has broken

Like the first morning,

Blackbird has spoken

Like the first bird.

Praise for the singing!

Praise for the morning!

Praise for them, springing

Fresh from the Word!

2 Sweet the rain’s new fall

Sunlit from Heaven,

Like the first dewfall

On the first grass.

Praise for the sweetness

Of the wet garden,

Sprung in completeness

Where his feet pass.

3 Mine is the sunlight,

Mine is the morning,

Born of the one light

Eden saw play.

Praise with elation,

Praise every morning,

God’s re-creation

Of the new day!

The Greeting

Alleluia!  Christ is risen.

The Lord is risen indeed.  Alleluia!

May his grace and peace be with you.

May he fill our hearts with joy!

The Collect Prayer

Holy and righteous God, you are the author of life, and you adopt us to be your children.  Fill us with your words of life, that we may live as witnesses to the resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God, now and forever.

The Readings

Acts 3:12-19 / 1 John 3:1-7/ Luke 24:36b-48

The Homily

Hymn after the Homily: For the Beauty of the Earth CP  #429 (tune, Dix)

1 For the beauty of the earth,

for the glory of the skies,

for the love which from our birth

over and around us lies.

Refrain:

Christ, our Lord, to you we raise

this, our hymn of grateful praise.

2 For the wonder of each hour

of the day and of the night,

hill and vale and tree and flower,

sun and moon and stars of light, [Refrain ]

4 For the joy of human love,

brother, sister, parent, child,

friends on earth, and friends above,

for all gentle thoughts and mild, [Refrain]

5   For each perfect gift of thine

to our race so freely given,

graces human and divine,

flower of earth and buds of heaven, [Refrain]

Affirmation of Faith

Hear, O Israel,

the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

Love the Lord your God

with all your heart,

with all your soul,

with all your mind,

and with all your strength.

This is the first and the great commandment.

The second is like it:

Love your neighbour as yourself.

There is no commandment greater than these.

The Prayers of the People

Confession & Absolution

God our Creator, long-suffering, full of grace and truth,

You create us from nothing and give us life.

You give your faithful people new life in the water of baptism.

You do not turn your face from us,

Nor cast us aside.

We confess that we have sinned

Against you and our neighbour.

We have wounded your love and marred your image in us.

Restore us for the sake of your Son,

And bring us to heavenly joy,

In Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

As our Saviour taught us, let us pray, All Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Benediction

We have met living Christ in this time together.  Now let us meet God’s Spirit among friends, strangers and in all of creation.  For God’s love lives today and forevermore.  Amen

The Blessing

Closing Hymn:  Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee CP #425

1 Joyful, joyful, we adore You,

God of glory, Lord of love;

Hearts unfold like flow'rs before You,

Op'ning to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;

Drive the dark of doubt away;

Giver of immortal gladness,

Fill us with the light of day!

2 All Your works with joy surround You,

Earth and heav'n reflect Your rays,

Stars and angels sing around You,

Center of unbroken praise;

Field and forest, vale and mountain,

Flow'ry meadow, flashing sea,

Chanting bird and flowing fountain

Praising You eternally!

3 Always giving and forgiving,

Ever blessing, ever blest,

Well-spring of the joy of living,

Ocean-depth of happy rest!

Loving Father, Christ our Brother,

Let Your light upon us shine;

Teach us how to love each other,

Lift us to the joy divine.

Announcements

1. Advisory Board - Normally we would meet on the third Tuesday of the month - which would be this coming week.  Because of another community even taking place (Town Hall with the Medical Associates), a new date is being scheduled.  The board will be advised.

2. Evening Prayer - As we enter into what feels like a very challenging and worrying time in our province and community, we will be offering an evening prayer service on Wednesday evenings, from 7:30 - 8 pm for the next 5 weeks.  The service will be over Zoom, will include readings and prayers.  The format will be similar to what we did for Ash Wednesday.  Information and link will come in our newsletter this week.
