Aeneas Lane asked me to share this poem with you again.  I wrote this in 2018 and shared it that Advent.  Advent invites us to wait and in waiting opens us to the small streams of light that we might otherwise miss. ~ Ruthanne

Waiting in Empty Churches - An Advent Poem

Light peaks poorly through early December darkness

the quiet of an unused church

penetrating small souls

I am waiting

When there are more moments than one anticipated

heartbeats slow

and breath grows deeper

I am waiting

Hard pews on sore backs

push us to prayers

we never knew we had in us

I am waiting

It is quiet in here

too quiet

for a place where God draws near

I am waiting
