Act of Remembrance

(you may wish to use this act of Remembrance today or on Remembrance day itself)

They shall grow not old,as we that are left grow old;age shall not weary them,nor the years condemn.At the going down of the sun and in the morning,we will remember them.We will remember them.

Moment of Silence

Let us pray,

Ever-living God we remember those whom you have gathered from the storm of war into the peace of your presence; may that same peace calm our fears, bring justice to all peoples and establish harmony among the nations, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Worship Service for Sunday November 8th

Opening Hymn

Let Streams of Living Justice - click on "NorthSt.m4a" below to listen and sing along.

Verse 1
Let streams of living justice
flow down upon the earth;
give freedom's light to captives,
let all the poor have worth.
The hungry's hands are pleading
the workers claim their rights,
the mourners long for laughter,
the blinded seek for sight.
Make liberty a beacon,
strike down the iron power;
abolish ancient vengeance:
proclaim your people's hour.

Verse 2
For healing of the nations,
for peace that will not end,
for love that makes us lovers,
God grant us grace to mend.
Weave our varied gifts together;
knit our lives as they are spun;
on your loom of time enroll us
till our thread of life is run.
O great weaver of our fabric,
bind church and world in one;
dye our texture with your radiance,
light our colors with your sun.

Verse 3
Your city's built to music;
we are the stones you seek;
your harmony is language;
we are the words you speak.
Our faith we find in service,
our hope in others' dreams,
our love in hand of neighbor;
our homeland brightly gleams.
Inscribe our hearts with justice;
your way--the path untried;
your truth--the heart of stranger;
your life--the Crucicfied.

Collect Prayer

Holy God, whose fire of love never goes out: free us from the fear of scarcity that keeps us out of love’s own feast; renew our trust in your abundance which knows no death and keeps no count; through Jesus Christ, our oil of gladness.  Amen.

Meditation Song

Creator of the Stars of Night - click on "NorthSt7.m4a" below to listen and sing along to.

Creator of the stars of night,
Thy people’s everlasting light,
Jesu, Redeemer, save us all,
And hear Thy servants when they call.

Thou, grieving that the ancient curse
Should doom to death a universe,
Hast found the medicine, full of grace,
To save and heal a ruined race.

Thou cam’st, the Bridegroom of the bride,
As drew the world to evening-tide;
Proceeding from a virgin shrine,
The spotless victim all divine.

At whose dread name, majestic now,
All knees must bend, all hearts must bow;
And things celestial Thee shall own,
And things terrestrial, Lord alone.

Affirmation of Faith

Our Lord Jesus Christ said: hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord; thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind and with all thy strength.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it: thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever.  Amen.

Benediction

As we choose to walk in the ways of peace

no matter what the cost

may we all be strengthened and upheld

in the Blessing of God,

the Holy Trinity.

Amen.

Closing Hymn

Let There be Light - click on "NorthSt8.m4a" to listen and sing along to.

1. Let there be light,
let there be understanding,
let all the nations gather,
let them be face to face.

2. Open our lips,
open our minds to ponder,
open the door of concord
opening into grace.

5. Your kingdom come,
your Spirit turn to language,
your people speak together,
your Spirit never fade.
