Junior Youth and Children's Ministry Coordinator

Following on from the decision taken at our Annual Vestry in 2008 to pursue a new appointment to take on some of the responsibilities associated with youth and children's ministry and the securing of a seeding grant from the Diocese of Toronto of $60 000 over three years, we are glad to announce that we have made an appointment to the post of Junior Youth and Children's Ministry Coordinator at the Ascension.   The key was to ensure that we could both develop and extend our ministry to children and junior youth (those in Grade 7 & 8) on both a congregational and community level.  To this end we have decided to appoint George Hewitt to work half-time at Ascension and to spend his time equally between congregationally focused ministry that nurtures Christian formation in children and community/missionally focused outreach to children up to and including those in Grade 8.  As part of his contract agreement, George Hewitt will also be undertaking degree studies that will include courses in Theology and Biblical Studies at Tyndale and will be serving a youth and children's minisry internship under the supervision of the Rev Simon Bell.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES ON A SUNDAY MORNING In light of the changes we have made to the youth programming with the launch of both a Junior and Senior YATA, and after some conversation with teenagers and the Sunday School teachers, we have decided to go ahead with a few practical changes in regards to how young people are involved at the Ascension on Sunday morning. The Grades 5 and 6’s and the Grades 7 & 8’s will meet as two Sunday School groups.  Those in Grades 9+ are encouraged to get involved in an area of ministry in the life of the church and to be part of the adult worshipping community.  There are a range of areas that young people could be involved in that include: co-teaching a Sunday School class, helping with prayers and readings, assisting with Communion, being a server or helping with the audio-visual ministry. We would strongly ask that if you are in Grades 9+ that you have a conversation with Simon Bell or the co-ordinator of a particular area of ministry about how you could get involved on a Sunday morning.  If you would love to co-teach in Sunday School then Sherry Kibble would love to hear from you. In you have any questions pertaining to the changes, please feel free to have a conversation with Simon Bell.

So you say you have faith?  Let’s see it.
Want wisdom?  Ask God.
Love money?  Prepare to be disappointed.
Want results?  Pray.

SO, bring your bible and let's get into the place
where the Holy Spirit points us to the risen Jesus.

HERE’S SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: “Jesus today has many who love his heavenly kingdom, but few who carry his cross; any who yearn for comfort, few who long for distress. Plenty of people he finds to share his banquet, few to share his fast. Everyone desires to take part in his rejoicing, but few are willing to suffer anything for his sake. There are many that follow Jesus as far as the breaking of bread, few as far as drinking the cup of suffering; many that revere his miracles, few that follow him in the indignity of his cross.” - Thomas a Kempis (Quoted by Eugene Peterson)

Matt 7:14 –
“The gate to life is very narrow. The road that leads there is so hard to follow that only a few people find it.”
